!!! Veer Savarkar Library !!!

They say the richness of the language lies in its vivid literature. Right from the inception of Hitawardhini Sabha, the people associated with it, including the founder members wanted to have a library for the residents of Brahmin Society and nearby areas. But it became a distant dream due to lack of space and funds. Realizing the very need, the Brahmin Society came to a rescue and offered one of its empty plots. Finally, on 21st April 1989, under the Chairmanship of famous poet Shri. M. P. Bhave and in presence of the Guest of Honour Late Shri. Shyam Phadake, the library, named after “Veer Savarkar” started its operations.

In the year 1992-93, the Veer Savarkar Library received Government recognition. The library has been organizing book exhibitions for a long time now. It often gets its resources and books from its readers in cash and kind. In its journey so far, the efforts of Shrimati Yesutai Pendse and Mumbai University’s Asst. Librarian (Retd.) Mrs. Vasudha Paranjape is worth mentioning.

In no time, the library has gained immense popularity and has been shifted to the new building of Hitawardhini Sabha. It holds more than five hundred members and an excess of ten thousand books, some 100-125 magazines and many popular newspapers.
